“When I was a junior, I was expelled.”

When I ... when I was a junior, I was expelled for two semesters. It really slowed me down because I started to be more concerned with my academics. I was doing construction work. I was seeing old men working there and I said, “No way! I can’t be doing this. I got to get into school regardless of my history and my academic problems. I got to focus.”

I transferred over to a different high school. It wasn’t your traditional high school, it was more fast-paced. There was more responsibility on you and that helped me get back on track. When I came back I got a little more settled down and I started to focus more on school and pay more attention to my future. My grades were not the best yet, but I think that helped me be strong in college.
