“It hits you at once.”

Part of the reason that I was overwhelmed by the time that I actually seriously began thinking about college is because of all the different interactions that go on in the process itself. It’s not like you just apply and you’re accepted and then you start going to college. There’s really a lot of interactions that go on between you, your high school, all the colleges and universities that you apply to, finance companies, state organizations — they’re also involved in the process. So when you tie all that in together, it hits you at once and it really is overwhelming if you have no experience with it at all.
