“My essay was about my struggles growing up.”

The hardest part about the whole application — I would have to say the essay. Just because you try to write an essay that really speaks to you that contains your voice. You want to write it so colleges know the kind of person you are. So you got to be very true to yourself. Because it's really easy to exaggerate and to make up stuff. You try to find a way that really speaks to you.

I actually showed my essay to numerous people — my academic mentor, college counselor, history teacher. I wrote about the Navajo Nation — coming from the Navajo Nation — kind of like just my journey. How I always wanted to be an inspiration. Trying to find a way to do what not many Native Americans could do. Really about my struggle growing up till that point. That's what I wrote about.
